From Lemonade to Lasting Impact: Three Brothers Give Back Through Piggy Bank Philanthropy

Sometimes the sweetest success comes from sharing it with others.

That was the lesson Gabe, Ty, and Cam Dickinson demonstrated after a successful neighborhood lemonade stand. Rather than spending the money they earned, the three brothers chose to turn their hard work into something even more meaningful.

Together, they raised $157 selling lemonade, then deposited their earnings into their Piggy Bank Philanthropy pigs before bringing them to the Defiance Area Foundation to make their donation.

Their decision wasn’t made because someone told them to give. It came from a genuine desire to help the community they call home.

“We chose the Defiance Area Foundation because they do a lot for the community,” Gabe shared. “The community needs the money more than we do.”

Ty added another reason for their decision.

“We like all the work the Foundation has done for the parks in Defiance.”

Their gift will support the Defiance Area Foundation’s mission of strengthening Defiance County through grantmaking, community partnerships, and charitable funds that improve the quality of life for local residents.

Stories like Gabe, Ty, and Cam’s remind us that generosity doesn’t have to wait until adulthood. It begins with simple decisions, working hard, sharing with others, and recognizing that even small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.

Piggy Bank Philanthropy was created to help children and families experience the joy of giving firsthand. By saving their own money and choosing causes they care about, participants discover that philanthropy isn’t about how much you give. It’s about making a difference with what you have.

The Dickinson brothers’ lemonade stand may have lasted only a few days, but the lesson it teaches will last much longer.

Their story is proof that when young people are empowered to give back, they don’t just strengthen organizations, they strengthen the future of our community.

If you’d like to join Piggy Bank Philanthropy, stop by the Defiance Area Foundation to pick up your free piggy bank. When your pig is full, we’d love to hear your story and celebrate the difference you’re making!
