What a milestone year as we continue to celebrate our 40th Anniversary! You will see “Fast Facts” about how we supported Defiance County during this last fiscal year. Our theme this past year was “Together We Grow”! We were blessed with generous donations and legacy gifts that enabled us to make 75 grants from our community fund of $1,000 each as part of our Anniversary Celebration. Our goal this year was to support more individuals, families, and organizations that help our community and get to know those small organizations that need financial assistance.

We also helped to support and save the 1918 building. We are hopeful for a repurposing of the building over the next 5 years as we work in partnership with the Justin Coressel Foundation and the City of Defiance to help move this project forward. The Defiance Public Library received our first grant of $5,000 in 1982 and you will see how their organizations have benefited with nearly $100,000 in grant-making over the last four decades (page 7). The Melton family recently created a scholarship fund to assist students who are the first generation in their family to attend College (page 9). Youth continues to be a priority in our community and you will see how we have supported and launched a new youth philanthropy fund (page 15).

As we contemplate this next decade for The Foundation, we ask ourselves, “What makes Defiance Great?” We would like to hear from you and we will be seeking your input over this next year. Please watch our Newsletter and Social Media for more details.

I have enjoyed these past two years as President of The Defiance Area Foundation and look forward to watching The Foundation grow, thrive, and evolve to meet the ever changing needs in our community. I would like to thank those who have contributed and supported us through giving of their time and resources to help us build a strong Foundation.
